	Welcome To The Dark Side Viracocha Alpacas are located at Waterford Estate at Birallee in Tasmania a 30 minute leisurely drive from Launceston. Waterford Estate is located in a peaceful valley surrounded by the Great Western Tiers, one of Tasmania's greatest tourist destinations. The stud is under full time management by Dominic Lane who is an accredited A.A.A. Judge. Dominic has judged alpacas throughout Australia, New Zealand and has recently judged the largest alpaca show in Europe. We originally discovered and fell in love with the alpaca in 1995. It didn't take long to make the decision to breed these magnificent animals and make them a part of our every day life. We are now an established stud that has been specialising in breeding the perfect black alpaca since 1996.Our stud name was chosen after Viracocha, the Inca god of creation: this symbolises our dediction to breeding the perfect black alpaca. Viracocha runs a quality herd of black breeding females including the rare black suri. Our suri herd is mainly black and there is nothing more breath-taking than seeing these magnificent alpacas shimmering in the morning sun, they are simply stunning. At Viracocha, breeding for fineness, density and character in our black breeding programme is our vision. We are now breeding superfine fleeces ranging from 17-22 micron. This has been accomplished by a selective breeding programme using elite black and fawn stud sires chosen for their advanced fleece traits. Some of the genetics used in our breeding programme are: Huacaya Pacific Beethoven, Jolimont Buster, Noblacka Jack Flash, Inca Zulu, Inca Black Magic, Kingston Park Paragon, Kingston Park Vulcan, Somerset Peruvian Black Reign, Jolimont Attitude, Jolimont Sculptor, Somerset Peruvian Excellence, Purrumbete Highlander, Purrumbette Eldorado and Peruvian Drambuie. Suri Peruvian Senator, Waltzing Matilda Silquesta, Cedar House Desert Prince, Wyterrica Crosbie. Our alpacas have been awarded Supreme Championship's and various Broad and place ribbons throughout Australia including the Royal Sydney, Royal Melbourne and the prestigious A.A.A. National Show. We believe strongly in the improvement of the black alpaca, it's end product and are breeding for the long term of the industry.
